ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Ataxia Connection (formerly known as Nebraska Ataxia) was founded to serve individuals affected by ataxia and their care partners through direct assistance, community and professional education and awareness, and funding for medical therapies, equipment, and research. The organization’s mission focuses on improving the quality of life for people living with ataxia in Nebraska and Iowa. Since 2017, the Ataxia Connection Board has approved nearly $600,000 in grants for individuals dealing with ataxia and their care partners. In January 2024, the organization underwent a name change from Nebraska Ataxia to Ataxia Connection, reflecting its expanded scope and commitment to serving the broader ataxia community.

The heart of Ataxia Connection’s work is addressing the profound isolation that many people with ataxia experience and providing practical support where it’s needed most for Ataxians and their Care Partners. Through strategic partnerships with mobility companies, home healthcare and hospice agencies, and other organizations, Ataxia Connection provides financial assistance for items and services that may not be covered by health insurance—including mobility aids, physical and mental therapies, ADA-related home modifications, and support for quality of life improvements.

Looking forward, the organization remains committed to expanding its support network, increasing awareness of ataxia, advancing funding for medical research, and ensuring that no one facing this challenging disease has to face it alone.
